I remember this email well, Adam. As someone who sees online courses as having a distinctive value of their own, not comparable to a classroom class but just different, I think that online education is NOT just for students who cannot attend face to face ("a way to educate students who are simply not physically able to participate in the dynamic learning experience in our classrooms"). Semester after semester, students report that they interacted more with me and more with their fellow students in my online classes than in their 150-minutes-per-week classroom experience. Admittedly, the reliance on the LMS does not facilitate that type of high-presence, high-interaction course design...
